A check valve is an important component of a piston compressor that ensures the compressor starts without back pressure and unloads when it stops. It is usually located after the discharge pipe and before the compressed air tank. In a spring-loaded check valve, the shut-off element opens only when the pressure of the compressed air is able to overcome the resistance of the spring pressing the shut-off element of the valve against its seat. This type of air check valve can operate in both vertical and horizontal positions.
